Indian River Soccer Association
The Indian River Soccer Association’s main season begins in late July and runs until late September.  All league play during this season is considered ‘recreational’ soccer and we currently do not travel to tournaments.  The association is interested in pursuing competitive and tournament play, however we are in need of volunteers willing to head up this initiative.

The Indian River Soccer Association operates divisions that are open for players from 4 - 17 years old. The official cut-off date is Aug 1st of each year, so your child’s age on that date is how ‘old’ they are for league purposes.  Although this is important for all age divisions, it is especially important when considering the U-6 division (our lowest age group).  Children who are four years old or older and less than six years old on Aug 1st, are eligible for participation in this division.  A child that is not four years old on Aug 1st may not play in any association division.  There are no exceptions to this rule (that includes if your child turns four on August 2nd).  This is a liability issue for the IRSA and we are not able to grant any waivers on this issue.  Children older than four years old may be ‘bumped’ up to a higher division if requested in writing by their parent / legal guardian and approved by the association’s competition committee.

All regular recreational soccer games are scheduled for week nights, beginning after 6 p.m.  Your child will receive a age-division specific schedule from their coach at the beginning of the season.  It is important for your child to attend every game that is scheduled in addition to any make-up games.  The team depends on full participation from all players and a game may be forfeited if there are not enough players to field a team.

GAME CANCELLATIONS

Decisions on weather-related cancellations or game terminations are at the discretion of the Referee Coordinator and /or any on-site league referee.  This authority is part of their responsibility as certified referees and their decisions will not be overruled by the association.  In some cases league Director’s may be consulted regarding this decision.  Following a called game the referee may also rule on on the feasibility of playing games which may be scheduled for later that day or evening.  The authority to cancel an entire day / night of games rests with the Referee Coordinator.  If this occurs he will inform the coaches and it will be their responsibility to  pass this information along to the parents of the players.  This fact will also be posted on the website as soon as possible.  In cases where the neither the Referee Coordinator nor a referee is present at the field during threatening weather, the coaches involved must use their own judgement in determining whether to continue playing.  If coaches observe lightning or hear thunder, it is required that the game be suspended immediately and the field cleared. Cancelled or called games will be made up if time permits and affected teams can reach agreement on a mutually agreeable make-up date.  Once again - it is your coaches responsibility to inform their players when a game has been cancelled!
FUNDRAISING

It is extremely important that we have maximum participation in the major fundraiser that we have scheduled for this year.  Our ability to raise money via a one-time fundraising event allows us to limit the time involved in these activities for parents, keep our registration costs down and also to make plans for improving the Association in the future.  Our goal is to have every player participate and we urge every parent to meet this goal.  As those of you who have attended our meetings in the part are aware, our registration fees DO NOT meet our operating costs, and in fact fall significantly short of doing so.  The Board’s position has long been to keep these fees low to encourage all children to participate and we are struggling to maintain this ideal.  Soccer fees in surrounding communities exceed $100 per player in some cases and we want to avoid that type of increase in our fee structure.  We also want to continue on with our plans for improving the facilities, training and operation of the Association.  All of these things take money, which we need your help with - Please accept the challenge of having every player participate in our fund-raiser! Thank You
